The Joy Shuttle Car revolutionized underground mining when it was released in July, 1938, offering a mines an alternative to rail-mounted haulage. Offering mines reliability, lower operating costs and increased productivity, the machines have been working in underground mines all over the world ever since. The shuttle car is the most common batch haulage machine in use today in underground mining. The machines have been adapted to meet the operating environments of the mine with the chassis and rolling gear designed, using finite element analysis to find the optimal balance of volumetric load, vehicle dimensions, load-carrying ability, and fatigue life.
