Though generally safe and orderly, here are some common scams to watch out for: 1. **Fake Charity Collectors**: Scammers often pose as representatives of fake charities, particularly around tourist hotspots. They might approach you with a clipboard and a persuasive story, asking for donations. It’s best to politely decline and walk away. 2. **Overpriced Souvenirs and Goods**: Some shops, especially those near popular tourist attractions, may charge significantly higher prices for souvenirs or goods. It’s advisable to compare prices in different stores or seek recommendations for reputable places to shop. 3. **Fake Police Officers**: In this scam, individuals dressed as police officers might approach tourists, ask to see their passports, and then demand a fine for a fabricated offense. Real Swiss police officers rarely ask tourists for their documents on the street without a valid reason. Always ask for identification and, if in doubt, suggest going to the nearest police station. 4. **Taxi Overcharging**: While taxis in Geneva are generally reliable, some drivers may overcharge tourists by taking longer routes or not using the meter. To avoid this, insist that the driver uses the meter, or better yet, use a ride-hailing app where the fare is predetermined. 5. **Currency Exchange Scams**: Be cautious when exchanging money.
