Last summer we bought this 1966 Pontiac 2+2 convertible in southern Missouri on the Arkansas border. It had sat in a hay barn for about 15 years. I purchased it from the owner's widow who was so happy to see it go to someone that reminded her of her husband when he bought the car decades ago. The old hot rod has a lot of great options including a convertible top, power windows, power antenna, air conditioning, and reclining bucket seats with headrests! The odometer shows a little over 20,000 miles, but I assume it's 120k. Nevertheless, the body is exceptionally cleaner than most cars its age, despite having probably the worst lacquer-checked paint I've ever seen. Under the hood was a tired 400 cubic inch Pontiac engine from the late 70s. It looked like it was swapped in there a long time ago. The original 421 engine was included, but it broke a connecting rod and beat up one of the cylinders. At least one hole in the block will have to be sleeved, but we have it at least. This sent us on a quest to find another 421 engine for it. We were fortunate enough to find a 1965 Catalina 2+2 421 automatic that was wrecked hard in the front on an insurance auction in Missouri. The car wasn't salvageable, but it appeared that the engine and transmission were rebuilt in the last ten years or so. We were able to buy the car for the value of the engine and transmission, and also got some Cragar S/S wheels and nice red interior with it. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the drivetrain had some speed parts installed: factory long branch exhaust manifolds, and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, roller rockers, a goofy Hurst shifter, and a 2400 RPM stall converter! The drivetrain package was installed in the 66 just as it was in the 65, with the exception of a different carburetor and some new gaskets and paint. In this video, I go through the steps that I took to get the 421 running, and then installed in our pretty white 66 2+2. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment, and subscribe!
