Poombuhaar - Best Scene in Tamil Cinema History... Dialogs - Kalaignar M Karunanidhi, Actress - VijayaKumari.. Story Based on Famous Ancient Tamil Epic Silappathigaaram. Kannagi comes to Pandiyan King's place in Madurai to sought justice for her husband Kovalan's death penalty executed by the Pandya King's order. Earlier, Kannagi's husband Kovalan came to Madurai to start business with his wife Kannagi's one of anklet. He was wrongly accused of stealing Madurai queen's one of anklets and ordered by the Madurai King to be executed without any probe. Historically the Pandiyan King was very famous for his faultless justice but in this case he blindly believed his aides assurance. In this clip Kannagi proves to the court that the King was wrong in ordering death penalty to her husband in queen's anklet disappearance case. She proves to the court that her husband (Kovalan) was carrying one of her own anklet, not of queen's stolen anklet. King realizes his faulty justice which killed a innocent person, and so he immediately dies of heart attack. The queen also dies at spot in shock after the King. Then Kanagi in rage littering the palace with fire, earth quake shatters the city, demolishing the palace killing many people including the main culprit one was mastermind behind this wrong death penalty. Dialog writer Karunanidhi (Ex-Chief minister of Tamilnadu) took the liberty of making slight modifications to the original epic. He made some deft changes so that the derogatory allusions to the goldsmith community were avoided. Also, Kannagi is said to have plucked/cut out her left breast and set Madurai on fire. Being a rationalist, Karunanidhi made Vijayakumari go around doing the deed with a lighted torch.
