The only experiment we did all year was dropping a penny in hydrochloric acid, catching hydrogen bubbles, and lighting them to make a tiny pop. The professor’s face fell in disbelief. "That’s it?" he asked. "Yes," we replied, clearly embarrassed. But instead of scolding us, he did something unexpected, he gave us hope. He handed us the title of a chemistry book, told us to read every page, solve every problem, and to not give up. We followed his advice, and by the final exam, all five of us passed.
