Why A “Learning Curve Is Steep” Is Wrong: Understanding The Learning Curve In Manufacturing

How most people understand the learning curve - that a learning curve that is steep means that it is difficult to learn is wrong. The actual way to understand the learning curve is to think about how much performance you gain from moving an increment amount of experience. Generally, a steep learning means that you are actually making much progress, and learning a lot for a given amount of experience. In other words, it is the opposite of what people mean by a steep learning curve. What most people mean is a shallow learning curve when they say a learning curve is steep. Where does the learning curve in manufacturing come from? 1. The acquisition of knowledge of experience. 2. People learning their expected roles and how to interact with other people. This might be called transactive memory. 3. The accumulation of codified knowledge. 4. Increased specialization in manufacturing. 5. Reinvestment of the value that is created. There are many factors with a learning curve that is yet to be explored. Check out: What is Organizational Memory? My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements. https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money. The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
