The Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is one of the oldest shrines of Uttarkashi and is thronged by devotees in large numbers. Uttarkashi is an ideal location for trekking and exploring natural sites. The beautiful Dodi Tal Lake in Uttarkashi is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ganesha. It is also the natural habitat of the Himalayan Golden Trout, an endangered fish. The Maneri Dam and Dayara Bugyal are popular tourist attractions, worth visiting for the picturesque views. A favorite among mountaineers, Uttarkashi is home to the famous Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. The most convenient way of travelling to Uttarkashi is by reaching Haridwar,Rishikesh or Dehradun by flight or train and then hiring a taxi to Uttarkashi.
