March - A nature lover's diary. Wildlife, birds, flowers, gardens, nature and country walks.

March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb, not this year! Mainly rainy and windy with the occasional sunny day to lift the spirits. Skies were often lead grey but there’s an atmosphere to this sort of weather and if you can get out of the house and look carefully for the first real signs of spring you’ll be rewarded by the promise of flowers and green leaves as buds swell ready to bloom. By the middle of the month the blackthorn and damson blossom is beginning to speckle the hedgerows and by the end of March the masses of tiny delicate flowers have blanketed the prickly dark twigs in drifts of white. The birds will be sure to let you know that they are going to stick to the plan regardless of the weather, starting with song filled dawns and followed by the business of nest building. Chiffchaff, Wren, Robin, Crows, Jackdaws, Fieldfares, Chaffinch, House Sparrow, Blackbird, Song thrush and Blue Tits all obligingly cooperated in the making of this video and many more added their voices to the score.
