Jinshanling Great Wall | Hebei | China

#greatwall #greatwallofchina #hebei #china The Jinshanling Great Wall is a well-preserved and scenic section of the Great Wall of China, located in the mountainous area of Luanping County, Hebei Province, about 125 kilometers (78 miles) northeast of Beijing. It is one of the most popular sections of the wall for hiking due to its stunning landscapes, historical significance, and relatively less crowded environment compared to other sections like Badaling. The Jinshanling section was originally built during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) under the command of General Qi Jiguang in the 16th century to fortify the northern borders against Mongol invasions. This portion of the wall was primarily constructed between 1567 and 1570. It showcases advanced Ming-era defensive architecture, including watchtowers, battlements, and beacon towers. The Jinshanling section features a combination of restored and original segments, offering visitors a glimpse of both the grandeur and the raw, aged beauty of the Great Wall. The wall here is about 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles) long and features around 67 watchtowers, each strategically built for defense and communication. The architecture is notable for its intricate designs, such as brick carvings, stone ramps, and defensive barriers that were used to protect against invaders. Jinshanling is known for its spectacular mountain scenery, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, valleys, and the wall snaking over the rugged terrain. The section is a favorite among hikers, with several routes ranging from moderate to challenging, as the wall here includes steep sections and uneven steps. Popular hiking routes include trekking from Jinshanling to Simatai, which takes around 4–5 hours and provides access to both restored and wild, unrestored parts of the wall. The Jinshanling Great Wall is considered one of the most authentic and beautiful parts of the Great Wall, offering a quieter and more tranquil experience for visitors compared to more commercialized sections. The wall’s watchtowers and beacon towers were integral in military communication, sending smoke signals and defending against invaders. Jinshanling is less crowded compared to sections like Badaling, making it a great destination for those looking to explore the wall in a more peaceful and picturesque setting. There are cable cars available to take visitors up to the wall, or they can hike up to it. Because of its location, Jinshanling offers spectacular views, especially at sunrise and sunset. _________________________________________________________ All rights to the photos and videos are reserved.
