Herne the Hunter | Ghost of Windsor Forest

Windsor Great Park in Berkshire, England is said to be the home of a ghostly figure who rides a black horse at midnight, and growing out of his head are a massive set of antlers! Herne the Hunter, known throughout the world for his part in Shakespeare's play "The Merry Wives of Windsor", is a ghoulish entity with a penchant for bringing about misfortune, causing cows to produce blood instead of milk, and attacking people he comes across. But did Shakespeare invent this ghost story for his play? Or was Herne a part of pre-existing folklore? Could he have been more than just a ghost, even a god?
