Engineering Roles for Mass Timber Projects: EOR, delegated design, others?

When it comes to mass timber buildings, as a structural engineer, are the choices only EOR or nothing? As the mass timber industry grows, the opportunities for being involved in varying engineering roles on a project have expanded. Some engineers will take on full responsibility for the entire project, designing foundations, timber super structure, connections and more. Other projects will utilize two or more engineering firms, with one firm acting as EOR and designing just the foundations while another firm designs the entire timber framing system. Engineers can consult with manufacturers, can perform delegated connections design and more. In this video, Doug Steimle, an experienced mass timber structural engineer with Schaefer, discusses these varying roles and different ways in which he has worked on mass timber projects.
