Joe Gill, journalist at Middle East Eye, discusses the enduring relevance of Frantz Fanon's "The Wretched of the Earth" to the current crisis in Gaza. Born in colonial Martinique, Fanon grew increasingly disillusioned with the pervasive racism he faced in his life and work, leading him to Algeria where he became a staunch supporter of its fight for independence from France. He wrote a number of seminal works on the psychology of racial domination and the struggle for freedom. In this video, Gill emphasises how reading Fanon today, more than 60 years after his death, strikingly echoes the struggles of Palestinians under Israeli settler colonialism, particularly in terms of the violence deployed by the settler army and the dehumanisation it inflicts on the colonised.
