Back in the 2000's, licensed games were a gold mine for publishers to dip their fingers into. They thought that a popular series or the newest movie was the best time for a videogame tie-in. Hard to imagine that was 20 years ago, feels like such a short AND a long time. They're less common nowadays, having been replaced by battlepasses, storefronts and whatever FOMO inducing scheme that publishers force onto their games. But back then, during that period of time between the PS1 and PS2, it was the time for innovation. 3D was taking off, devs were getting better at incorporating it into games and consoles were finally powerful enough to have FMV from movies or make the stars actually look decent and not like a melted drawing mannequin. Sure, there was a good chance that they were going to be terrible, maybe the devs were inexperienced or.... you know just didn't care, but that didn't stop them from coming out. For me, it was a weird time - one day, I'm playing the latest games with my cousins, the next I'm replaying Pixar's Monster's Inc Scare Island, so what happens when a certain Cartoon Network series explodes in popularity, with a brilliant cast of characters, a surprisingly mature story for its target audience and a plot device with endless possibilities? AHOY! VIDEOGAME OFF THE STARBOARD BOW! And what an interesting game it is! A young, hot-headed protagonist in possession of a device that gives him the ability to transform into aliens with insane powers?! In a beat-em-up game?!
