The only thought would be that it's easier because someone hands you the keys, the problem is that any legitimate company will make sure they know who they are handing the keys to. I've had two cars stolen from us over 15 years that I can remember, a 997 Porsche GT3 successfully and a Bentley GTC unsuccessfully. It's not the low-hanging fruit you would expect it to be, most rental car companies have measures of tracking and protecting their assets and are likely much more on guard for suspicious activity than private owners and dealers.
