I think it sounds more sophisticated than most of my usual compositions, the way Security Breach's theme inserts itself midway then turns into that tenseful music part is something I greatly like. • The recharge station This is the very last soundtrack that I composed for this project. Initially there wasn't supposed to be any music here, the intro music "Daycare theme" would simply keep playing quieter and quieter until Gregory appears on screen. However, it wasn't making much sense to hear this music from the recharge station, so instead I thought I'd try to compose something that would set up the mood. Starting mysterious and a bit tense, wondering what's happening, but then ending on a more hopeful note as Gregory is revealed. • Vanny's chase I'm proud of this one, another soundtrack that I didn't think would exist in the first place either. At first, the Vanny chase scene was supposed to only have the original "Vanny Chase Layers" music from the game playing in the background, which was working pretty fine by itself! But out of curiosity, and seeing how music turned out to be so important in my animation, I tried to compose something that would fit the original Vanny layers. It worked out instantly, I was amazed how efficiently I managed to make both layers of music overlay on each others! What you hear in this video, and the original animation, is both music layers together. • Interlude 01 Interludes are basically short pieces that I didn't know what to name, but also their role is to make some scenes feel less empty. They're pretty quiet, mainly composed of pads and quiet melody so they don't cover the dialogue, but rather accompany it, following the mood of the dialogue. • A newfound ally I'll be honest, I don't really like this one. I do like how I use Toreador's March melody, as Freddy is the one mainly on screen in that scene. But after hearing it so many times, I grew tired of it much faster than the other ones. Which, to me, shows that there's something wrong, but I couldn't really find what it was, not even to this day. But despite that, I think it does exactly what I wanted it to do for this scene, and that's what matters most! • A useless ally A little bit of comedy never hurts, and I think it helps build attachment to your characters. Security Breach made that joke a few times where Freddy says "I can do this to help you!", but then will tell several conditions that will prevent him to do said action, making you feel like he's not reliable at all (how ironic). So I thought it'd be funny to highlight that with Gregory's "reaction" and this music to go along. • Interlude 02 Two notes, that's all I needed because otherwise that scene felt very awkward. It serves as a transition from the previous and next mood of the scenes. • Friendly hand This version here, same than in the animation, is the result of a lot of different iterations that, in the end, made something that I liked. I composed it referring to Security Breach's theme, specifically the music box version that you can hear in the menu, truly adds a lot more to the main melody which is what I needed for this soundtrack here, as the mood is getting brighter and more hopeful. • Along your steps This. This is why I worked so long on this project. Back when the animation was much less ambitious and shorter, the ending felt so lame and boring, even though it was finishing the same way than in the final version: Freddy and Gregory holding hands. But it was ending so abruptly, it made it feel like all this project wasn't much. I was fine having my animation end like that, because back then, I didn't want it to be ambitious. I tried to compose something else though, as I was getting quickly tired of it, but only kept making disappointing attempts, one after the other. Until I pulled off something very similar to what you hear there. It felt so refreshing, so much more important than the previous lame one! I knew I had to make justice to this music: I changed the whole ending's pace and setting, added those three extra shots at the end that I got inspired to do from the music itself, and that's how this animation turned out the way it did today. I hope the few of you that will read this will find these extra bits of informations useful! There is so much I could say about Contrasting Encounters, but I'll just finish it here by saying that I'm proud of what I did, and I hope you've enjoyed it as well, thanks for reading!
