PPF withdrawal and closure rules | How to withdraw money from the PPF after and before 15 years

The Public Provident Fund, or the PPF, is a popular investment option. While many investors understand the basics of investing in it, PPF withdrawal and closure rules are relatively less understood. In this video, we explore the entire PPF withdrawal and closure spectrum. The first case is when the PPF account completes 15 years. In such a case, you have 3 options: close the account and withdraw the corpus; continue without contribution; and continue with contribution. You will need to fill the relevant forms at the bank or post office when you opt for any of these options. When you continue with or without contribution, you can make just one withdrawal in a financial year. In the video, we have given the details regarding how much you can withdraw in each case and who should opt for which option. You can also make premature withdrawals from your PPF account but such withdrawals can be made only after 5 completed financial years. There are rules as to how much you can withdraw, which we have discussed in this video. If you haven’t completed 5 financial years, you can take a loan on your PPF balance. If you want to prematurely close your PPF account, it can only be done after 5 completed financial years. There are certain conditions under which a PPF account can be closed. The catch here is that your interest is recalculated by 1% less for the entire tenure. The PPF account can also be closed in case of the death of the subscriber. If you fail to invest a minimum of Rs 500 in the PPF in a financial year, your account will get discontinued. In the video, we have discussed how you can revive such an account.
