Roping a Mustang

The folks who had this mustang had had him for about 6 weeks and could never get close. You can hear the lady making a 'CLUCK' noise on occasions, I didn't know until I watched but it appears she thinks she is 'Clicker Training' while I am working the horse. I'd not suggest you do what she is doing. Think about it. Now when you get him settled and want him to move, do you Cluck for motion?? Hmm... It could be confusing. IF you are going to Clicker Train, get a REAL Clicker! I sure make no claim to be an expert, but I do want to make this handy suggestion to anyone who is ever going to try to ROPE a horse... It is my advice the first few times you ever rope your horse you should first simply toss the rope over his back and let him carry it until he has no fear of the rope, then when ready use a "Break-Away" hondo so when you do catch him if things go wrong or he panics or tangles in the rope it will Always break loose and come free. Then when you think he is settled to the rope and you can actually begin to lead him a few strides and teach him to come to the pressure of the rope without popping your break-away hondo, use one of these "INSTA-KNOT" devices which keeps your rope from ever being able to come down tight on the horses neck, it prevents Choke! I've been using them for many, many years on hundreds of horses, dozens of wild mustangs and have passed these on to many of my colt starting friends including a couple of my Road to the Horse WORLD CHAMPION Colt Starter friends! A great tool! Set your Insta-Knot at about 22"-24", it will never come down tight on your horses neck. Share with your friends!~
