The European project #sea4value aims to recover minerals and metals from the #brine extracted in desalination plants. Different mineral and metal extraction #technologies will be developed and later validated in a moving lab within an ocean setting with real brines. Dr.-Ing. Heike Glade and her team from Evaporation Technology / Seawater Desalination Group at the University of Bremen, Germany, invented an evaporator during the project that has many advantages over common steel evaporators. The evaporator contains composite tubes and tube plates, all made from polymer-based materials. Within the core, the tube bundle is composed of polymer composites manufactured and supplied by TECHNOFORM - Heat Transfer Solutions. The tube plates and other parts, such as the shell and flanges, are constructed using fibre-reinforced resins by TPR Fiberdur GmbH & Co. KG. In this video they explain their steps on developing this new technology for brine concentration and other possible applications.
