Flat Track 9.21.2024 Pekin-Donnie Bargman

How could I miss the Donnie Bargmann memorial race at my favorite short track at Pekin Motorcycle Club? I couldn't! I showed up and started with my complete MD Racing's Motorcycle Repair & Performance built and prepared AFT Singles setup from Lake Ozark. Complete with harder AFT spec tires. We had 2 sighting laps with the other Pro riders. Good thing we did, because an electrical issue popped up. We lost our first practice session while my dad fixed the issue. I went out for practice two and the bike felt great. I felt good. My first heat race, which was for the Pro/Am, I did not get a great start. I wouldn't say I struggled with grip, but I definitely did not have the exit grip that the soft tire did. I couldn't get close enough to make a good proper pass going in without being sketchy. I had to go to the Donnie LCQ. For the Open Pro heat, we got a freshly prepped track. I got a better start and finished fifth. I battled with #106 Pottorf. We were the only ones running our AFT spec bikes with the harder AFT spec tires. You could see we both had about the same level of grip exiting the corners. In the Donnie Bargmann LCQ I got a decent start, but still didn't have enough exit grip. Racing for the final transfer spots for the Donnie was probably the most exciting racing of the night. I had chances, but I came up one spot short at the line. We made some more changes to the bike for the Open Pro main. I got a pretty decent start. The bike was better and was getting more grip out of the corner. I was much closer to 3rd and 4th place. I ended up P5. I am posting the Open Pro main video. #106 Pottorf and I were running F5/R5. You can tell we were getting similar grip. Everyone else was on at least a softer rear. Looking at my data, we were doing our fastest laps of the race at the end. I didn't fade. MW18 and TS75 were just doing a tenth or so faster a lap than us. Yes, We had new softs sitting in the trailer we could have put on. Yes, winning money would have been nice. But instead, we left with some better setup data. My dad and I keep learning. It is nice to know we are close enough to be only chasing tenths. A big shout out to my former fellow AMA District 17 Flattrack Amateur 'A' level riders. It was like you all stepped it up a notch for the Donnie. The track proved that you had to have your hole shots on point, and you all did. Thank you to my sponsors for supporting our 2024 season. #fxrmoto #RKchain #galferusa #penskeracingshocks MD Racing's Motorcycle Repair & Performance Carter Farm Racing #Modobag #riverratmachineworks Frank-N-Stine Graphics #theracebattery
