READ THIS DESCRIPTION !!! There are a couple errors in the briefing and a few clarifications that are helpful: 1. I mistakenly refer to hydrochloric acid as hydrofluoric acid on one slide 2. I mistakenly refer to hydrogen sulfate as hydrogen sulfite on one slide 3. The picture on the opening slide is a German u-boat battery cell 4. I don’t expressly call it out, but as the hydrogen gas ventilation system could be damaged during depth charging, battery cell casings could crack for the same reason and allow seawater into a battery cell. 5. I refer to a two step chemical reaction (but only show one step) that results in chlorine gas. Here is the two step process: Mix battery acid with sea water to produce hydrochloric acid. H2SO4 + 2 NaCl = 2 HCl + Na2SO4 Then use lead dioxide from the battery plate as an oxidizer to release chlorine gas. 4 HCl + PbO2 = Pb + 2 H2O + 2 Cl2 Source https://www.physicsforums.com/threads... U-boat battery life is talked about in Briefing #3 "U-boat Underwater Endurance" I rushed the discussion a bit on the slide showing the three battery states. I understand it, but if you don’t please leave a question below. U.S. NAVY THEORY OF LEAD ACID STORAGE BATTERY TRAINING FILM • U.S. NAVY THEORY OF LEAD ACID STORAGE...
