How do we get Earth Day to be year round? Brisbane Open House 2024 Speaker Series.

To make Earth Day a year-round commitment, we need to shift our approach from celebrating environmental awareness on a single day to embedding sustainability into our everyday lives.  Leading Brisbane Architect, Jim Gall, will lead a panel discussion on how we can design built form that is excellent, accessible to everyone, sustainable and sustaining. Jim Gall Director of Gall Architects - with a 30-year background in Environmental Science, designs sustainable places and things, focusing on both technology and people. Known for award-winning buildings and his holistic approach, he combines technical expertise with innovative ideas. Jim is director of Gall Architects, Professor of Design at Queensland University of Technology, and advises local governments. Andrew Noonan Sustainable Design Lead at Hassell Studio - won the 2024 Harry Marks Award at the AIA Queensland Awards. A Councillor at the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter, he serves on national and chapter Climate Action and Sustainability Committees. Notable projects include Australia’s first certified Living Building. He studied sustainability at Cambridge and completed the Regenesis Institute’s Regenerative Practitioner Series. Andrew advocates for a resilient, prosperous future through responsible, net-zero built environments. Paul Butterworth Principal at Paul Butterworth Architect - with over 20 years of architectural experience in Australia and the UK, is the design director of his award-winning, sustainability-focused Brisbane practice. His firm specializes in client-focused residential projects, offering collaborative experiences for context-based designs. Paul serves on the AIA’s Climate Action and Sustainability Committee and is a guest critic at several universities. Emma Healy, Principal Architect at City of Moreton Bay council - she emphasizes subtropical design and social sustainability in development assessment and strategic planning. With over 15 years of experience, she co-founded Landings Studio, focusing on adaptive re-use. She managed a Good Design Award-winning project in Fiji and taught at the University of Queensland on climate resilience.
