A train ride from Union Station Ottawa to Bayview via Hull 1966

The Kitchissippi Museum presents: A series of rare home video recordings - "Riding the Rails in the NCR (Ottawa) in the 1960s". All recordings by and courtesy of Bruce Chapman. Please see my other videos for more videos recorded by Bruce Chapman in the 1960s. This video is from Spring 1966 (the caption at the beginning of the video states April 12th, but that may have been a note for another portion of the footage). In this incredible video, Bruce Chapman provides the viewer with an incredible opportunity - to experience what a train ride was like, travelling from Union Station in downtown Ottawa, across the Alexandra Bridge to Hull, then back over the Prince of Wales Bridge to Bayview station (trains had to cross to Hull and come back over in order to travel west within Ottawa). This footage is filmed from the front of the engine (engine 1403). At the end the train reaches Bayview Road, then switches tracks and backs into the yard at Ottawa West station (where Tom Brown Arena stands today). Note there is no audio on any of the videos, this is consistent with all of the footage filmed by Bruce. Any jumps/gaps in the filming are on the original recordings (Bruce told me that reels would only be a certain length - maybe 30 or 60 seconds, and once used up, he would need to stop and put on a new reel).
