Today we make an update on my semi hydro experiment using traditional leca and also seramis. I also have a few thoughts to share with you that will hopefully help you decide if this is something that can benefit you or not. ▼▼▼More info bellow!▼▼▼ First off, if you missed the initial video on this you can check it here    • Orchids in Semi Hydroponics - Leca vs...   As it would appear leca is staying way too dry at the top and too moist near the reservoir. The all seramis pot stays way too moist all together and mold started to appear. The mix of leca and seramis looks like it is performing the best! Now a few thoughts on the clay medium that I think are worth mentioning. As we discussed in a previous video    • Using clay pots with Orchids - warnin...   clay is very absorbent and will even dry out roots faster if it's not saturated. But not only does it need to touch the root, but it can also absorb moisture from the air in its close proximity. Thus the roots will have less humidity if they are very close to clay and it's starting to dry out. Clay doesn;t need to be bone dry for the roots to be dry too. If it becomes dry enough to start absorbing moisture, roots will start to dry out as well, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. Semi Hydro pots are usually never allowed to be completely dry for this reason, but if we are talking about seramis, the reservoir can certainly be left to totally disappear, as seramis can hold its weight in water and is easily absorbing moisture, unlike leca.
