Training Horses In Water - FIRST RIDE For Our Rescued Clydesdale Horse

We take Oliver and Sonny down to the river for a little training session! Swimming is one one of the best ways to start a young horse. This will be Oliver's second swim and Sonny first. Swimming benefits horses in so many different areas! We use swimming horses as a means of training. It is especially helpful in starting young horses, like Oliver and Sonny. We will be doing alot of Oliver and Sonnys first training sessions here in the water. Swimming horses makes an easy and enjoyable learning experience for all. And a safer experience as well! Because Oliver had EPM (equine protozoal myeloencephlitis) and is still healing, swimming will specifically be helpful to him in recovery. Swimming gives the horse a highly effective full body workout; improving general fitness, joint flexion and respiration. Depending on water level, the buoyancy of the water reduces concussion and impact on the lower limbs, and encourages an increased range of motion. The high resistance of the water leads to increased muscle activity, and the water pressure helps to reduce swelling, stimulate circulation of the lower limbs and the cold water helps to reduce any pain present. For Oliver, this is great! And SO beneficial. Oliver, the Clydesdale auction horse has had quite the journey!!! From seeing him at a local auction, then finding him in TX!
