Part of the Shear Zone channel. Structural interpretations of thrust belts are commonly under-constrained, but historically, are strongly represented by "foothills" style thin-skinned models. Drawing on examples from the Alps, Italian Apennines and Papua New Guinea, this video explores whether these types of interpretations are universally (over even generally) applicable, and suggests that stratigraphic and structural interpretations need to go on hand-in-hand.
