Тел: / WhatsApp +79263745692 The Kelvin Dripper is an electrostatic generator invented by William Thomson (Lord Kelvin) in 1867. The simple design allows, however, to obtain voltages of the order of 10 kV. The device consists of a pair of metal cans, each of which is connected to a metal inductor ring suspended above the other can. Streams of water flow through the inductors from the upper vessel into the jars, which are divided into drops next to the inductors. Initially, the entire installation is electrically neutral and symmetrical, so it is not known in advance which of the cans will accumulate a charge of a certain sign. Due to random external influences, a small potential difference can always form between the left and right parts of the installation, thanks to which the installation does not require any starting charging of the cans. Due to electrostatic induction, metal rings induce opposite charges in a reservoir of water in the place under which they are located. As a result, the number of electrons at opposite edges of the reservoir becomes different. Having fallen, the drops fall into a jar corresponding to their charge, thereby increasing its charge, which creates an even greater electric field near the rings, enhancing the separation of static charge; This is how the Kelvin dropper accumulates static electricity. For best performance of the device, the metal rings should be kept a short distance apart to form a capacitor. This allows most of the charges to be concentrated inside the metal rings.
