LGBTQ+ Mental Health: The Trauma Of Coming Out

June is Pride Month and along with the festivities and celebrations, it is important to bring to light the need for mental health support within the LGBTQ+ community. Statistics have shown that 40% of LGBTQ+ youth have considered suicide in the last year, and 1 in 3 have been physically threatened or harmed in their lifetime because of their identity. In honor of Pride Month, Dr. LaNail R. Plummer, CEO of Onyx Therapy Group, will share her research, experiences, and evidence of working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. Dr. Plummer will use “real-life” quotes, client-based scenarios, and evidence-based practices to form tips for audience members, mental health professionals, and members of her shared LGBTQ+ community. Join us for this 60-minute webinar where we discuss: - Trauma through a clinical lens; - The “coming out” experience for members of the LGBTQ+ community; and - Ways to create new community and secondary families as one chooses to live a life of authenticity. This webinar was originally conducted on June 23, 2021. Stay up to date on MHA's webinar offerings by visiting www.mhanational.org/webinars. Meet the Speaker: Dr. LaNail R.
