Viking Husqvarna 6000 Series Sewing Machine - Un-seizing the Control Knobs

This Viking 6000 Series sewing machine (Husqvarna 2000 series) has a seized button hole control knob and reverse mechanism, along with some other seized parts. If your machine has been sitting for a long time or you've acquired one of these beaut machines, the controls may have seized up because of lack of use and lack of lubrication. This video shows how to fix the seized controls and reversing system, along with checking other areas like the button hole and zig zag mechanisms. Warning! - Make sure to keep the machine unplugged when the back cover is removed as there is danger of electric shock otherwise. Lubricate the offending parts first with penetrating oil and then bring the temperature of the machine up by sitting it in front of a heat source, but not too close, so that it slowly comes up in temperature. This helps the lubricants get into the bearings. The seized parts can then be worked at to help free them. Let the machine come down in temperature and test the mechanisms to make sure they haven't bound up again. If they have then keep working at them when the machine is warm until they are free when cool. Sometimes it may be necessary to target an area with heat by using a hair dryer or the like but be careful not to overheat any parts.
