This is one of those videos we have been looking forward to posting since we filmed it. It was frustrating, confusing, stressful and fun all at the same time. Somehow, we learned one could take a ferry across the Caspian Sea. Then we learned it was not your typical ferry. Sign us up! One blog and two YouTube videos were the only information we had about this journey. Luckily, a previous Airbnb host, Rufat, happened to be from Azerbaijan. Rufat told us if we were ever in his home country, we could reach out to him for suggestions or help, and we certainly did. Through the good, bad and ugly, we finally bought tickets and eventually made it on the ship that would take us to Kazakhstan. We thought the journey would begin once we made it on the boat.
