Part of a series of videos on the symbolism, mythology and folklore of various trees and plants of Britain, Ireland and Northern Europe. The Ash tree is one of the sacred trees of the Druids, and is represented by the 'Noin' in the Celtic Ogham, as well as the 'Ansuz' rune in the Germanic Elder Futhark. It is also the World Tree Yggdrasil, which connects the nine worlds in Norse and Viking as well as Anglo Saxon cosmology. Ash is a useful tree, historically making spears and arrows and other tools and weapons as well as furniture for bodgers and green wood workers. Ash is connected with healing, knowledge, magic and divination as well as strength and power. It is the tree of the gods, the aesir, and is the tree of the magician. As such, it is connected with Woden, Odin, Hermes, Mercury, Gwydion, Lugh and many other trickster magicians. Ash is the Tree of Knowledge.
