While we are still celebrating and rejoicing the resounding electoral victory of the Narendra Modi government, it is important to note that the 2019 general election has broken another record - for the first time in the history of Indian Parliament, 78 women MPs will be part of the Lok Sabha which comprises a little more than 14 %. There has been an incremental increase in the representation of women in politics, but the pace is far from satisfactory given the fact that the bill on 33 % reservation for women is still pending. What are the factors that drive women into politics, what are the hurdles and barriers which keep them at bay from winning or contesting, and how can we improve the representation of women in the political sphere. A former Indian Revenue Officer who defeated Congress' Ashok Tanwar from Sirsa Agatha K Sangma, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, National People's Party. She won elections from Tura in Meghalaya Manisha Priyam, well known political analyst, and a popular face across the TV channels.
