Christy Marx is the perfect subject for the debut because she’s someone who you many not know by name but surely you know her work. If you grew up watching TV in the 80s—or even looked at any of the decade’s finest offerings on YouTube—there’s a pretty good chance she deeply impacted your life writing for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, Conan the Adventurer, Hypernauts, Captain Power and others. This episode lays out her career’s trajectory, exposing the effort she made to push images of women into more powerful roles in a place where it could have the most impact: in animated shows for kids. Created by analog video artist JJ Stratford in her mutant television studio, Off Hollywood is a documentary series that covers influential and under-recognized filmmakers and gives them a chance to tell their story.
