North Korea Tests ICBM Hwasong-19, Raises Regional Security Concerns | N18G

North Korea’s state media released images Friday of a missile test reportedly observed by Kim Jong Un. The missile, called Hwasong-19, reportedly reached an altitude of 7,687 km and traveled over 1,000 km before landing in the sea. South Korea and Japan condemned the launch, viewing it as a threat to peace. The missile may be a solid-fuel ICBM, which allows quicker launches and is harder to detect. Japan’s Defence Minister reported this test broke previous North Korean altitude and duration records. Despite advances, experts believe North Korea lacks a functional nuclear-armed missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.
