Two Class 466 Networkers in Southeastern livery pass the crossing and station at Snodland before heading to Halling, having both just come from New Hythe, where there used to be another crossing before a bridge replaced it in the noughties. The crossing was upgraded in 2013 and the adjacent signalbox closed, with the crossing now controlled by CCTV. I was invited into the box before it closed and found that there was a Westie dog that lived there all it's life. The old crossing had bells, clattering barriers and original halogen lights that have now been replaced with SPX barriers, LEDs and yodalarms. The crossing provides access to some housing, the church and the paper mill, which is ideally suited on the bank of the River Medway. The area seems okay, although there was some pieces of a child's hat in the middle of the road. The surrounding footpaths that lead onto the Medway are really god for seeing birds, especially at this time of year. Snodland, according to my father, sounds like "it should be in a fairy-tale or something like that". Route: Medway Valley Line County: Kent Trains: 0:03 - 2:58 3:21 - 6:04
