University of Kentucky’s Dr. Gregory Jicha, MD, PhD joins Being Patient Live Talks to discuss the link between cholesterol and brain aging. Also working in Alzheimer’s and dementia treatment, his research interests lie in preclinical disease states, mild cognitive impairment, vascular contributions to dementia, and clinical trials of disease modifying therapies for degenerative dementias. In particular, he has studied how gemfibrozil treatment, a medication for cholesterol, can treat dementia, as explained in this lecture. Dr. Jicha is a Professor in the Department of Neurology and Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky (UK). Dr. Jicha holds the Robert T & Nyles Y. McCowan Endowed Chair in Alzheimer’s Research at UK. He directs the scientific efforts of the Clinical Core of the UK , NIA-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Center. In addition, Jicha also operates the Telemedicine Cognitive Clinic at UK, designed to reach out to rural populations across KY for both clinical and research-related activities in the area of AD and related disorders.
