You may have heard this as learning how to find glimmers in your day. Glimmers are small moments of joy or peace that can help regulate the nervous system and promote feelings of safety and calm. They can be anything from a place you've been to, a place you've only seen in pictures, or a place you've only imagined. Social worker Deb Dana first introduced the concept of glimmers in her 2018 book The Polyvagal Theory in Therapy. Glimmers are the opposite of triggers, which are people, places, things, or situations that can create a sense of danger and activate the nervous system's fight, flight, or freeze response. Noticing and appreciating glimmers can help build emotional resilience and develop a less reactive nervous system. Over time, the brain can be trained to seek out moments of joy in every situation, leading to a more peaceful way of being. This meditation makes it easier for you to train your brain to seek these moments out, because of the deep state of peace and rest you enter into during the yoga nidra practice.
