[Nokia] Ketsui DX - Special Mode ALL Clear - 7,323,540 (G-MODE Archives)

Turn on captions for some extra text commentary during the video. Ketsui DX is a special port of Ketsui that was made in 2005 for flip phones of all things, which was recently ported to Switch courtesy of the G-Mode Archives project. It's extremely dank and weird, it's quite a curiosity. It's obviously nowhere near the quality of the actual arcade game, but for what it is, it's kind of really good??? It's really impressive how much of Ketsui they managed to recreate on what was basically a calculator. Most of the Cave games seemed to have gotten a flipphone port back in the day, it's quite wild. This game is definitely better than the DOJ one I played earlier at least. If only because there are less drums. Was waiting for this to come to Steam as well but this never got ported there for some reason. Special is a hidden difficulty that basically changes the game into the Ura loop of the arcade game (at least as much as it can on this hardware). Patterns are buffed and everything shoots blue revenge bullets now, as well as the chip system being changed to accommodate this. This is also the only mode where you fight the true last boss DOOM at the end if you're on 1cc pace. You can't practice this boss either. Special is quite hard, I can't imagine doing this on an actual flipphone. Used Type B for this run mainly for its speed. Before I used Type A because it has a really powerful spread shot that wrecks stages, but the speed of that ship is so slow that you can barely dodge anything, it's awful. So I guess it evens out? lol One pretty significant difference from the arcade version to this is that you barely get any i-frames after a death. This sucks a lot against DOOM's bomb shield but also just in general. Dying also means you can't get your powerups back and without powerups nothing dies. So a lot of the time you're basically forced to use a bomb after a death to get your powerups back. One trick to mitigate this is dying near the top of the screen. This way the powerups will bounce of the top and drift down the screen, going towards where you respawn instead of away from it. Scoring in this mode works basically the same as Omote in the arcade version. Destroy enemies from far away so they shoot more revenge bullets and these revenge bullets get added to the stage multiplier. Destroy low-value enemies with shot and high-value enemies with lock to cash in on the multiplier. The score extend at 5 million is actually kinda hard to get, so you do need to do some scoring. 00:00 - Intro 00:38 - Stage 1 03:10 - Stage 2 05:55 - Stage 3 08:30 - Stage 4 11:34 - Stage 5 15:35 - TLB 17:12 - Ending & Credits Probably the first time this mode ever got cleared. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twitter:   / jaimersstg   Twitch:   / jaimersstg
