Informal Asia-Pacific Regional Science-Policy Dialogue on DSI on Genetic Resources

The Informal Asia-Pacific Regional Science-Policy Dialogue on Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources (DSI) was organised by the ABS Capacity Development Initiative (ABS CDI) and Meridian Institute in partnership with the Government of Indonesia's Biodiversity Agency on 29 August as part of the ongoing informal work on DSI conducted by ABS CDI and Meridian. The meeting provided an opportunity for Asian and Pacific negotiators and commercial and non-commercial users of DSI to hear one another’s perspectives. The forum built on, inter alia, the outcomes of the second DSI OEWG and aims to help prepare delegations for the negotiations at COP16 in Cali, Colombia. The objective of this dialogue is to foster mutual understanding between users of DSI and Asian-Pacific negotiators on each other’s interests, expectations, and concerns with respect to the proposed options for the DSI multilateral system and the open issues to be considered. 00:00 Welcoming remarks 10:46 Background information on joint informal work on DSI by ABS CDI and Meridian 13:02 Input: The use of DSI 28:44 Input: Technical introduction - DSI from scientific and policy angles 48:50 Input: Update on DSI negotiation process 01:07:07 Input: Outcomes of the 2nd meeting of the OEWG on Benefit-Sharing from the Use of DSI derived from GR 01:20:40 Panel discussion on the scientific use of DSI 01:56:47 Panel discussion policymakers & negotiators 02:34:52 Panel discussion policymakers, negotiators & scientists in dialogue 03:02:55 Closing remarks
