In this episode of Wood, Stone & Steel, Ken Sisk takes a tour of an artisanal, multipurpose timber-frame barn full of unique features that will inspire your next project! This barn was created mainly to house a mint 1952 Ford pickup truck that was renovated with lots of hard work and dedication on the owner's part. The barn includes extraordinary features like bull's eye glass for the transom, stainless-steel door hinges, double-stained white walls and a loft with steel-grate flooring with ornamented straps for a brighter indoor experience, a bird house, a hoist beam that can lift up an entire car engine, ash-wood flooring, electrified 19th century-inspired whale-oil lanterns, a blue-stone pathway that leads to the main house, and even ornamented pins held with leather straps for historically accurate single-hung windows! This barn is a mishmash of a semi-industrial barn that was imagined to be built with 19th century tools. Featuring a timber-frame construction as its main structural component, it allows for a ground floor with no center-post (due to its Queen Post frame construction) that welcomes an open-floor plan, and generally has a feeling of being over-built! Aside from housing a beautifully renovated historical pickup truck, it serves as a workshop and an art studio. The exposed 10x10" larch wood columns and beams provide unending inspiration for the owner and guests. The beauty of the natural materials and craftsmanship incorporated in this project is what drove us to feature it in our second episode.
