Located in the county of Buckinghamshire, and around 20 miles east of Oxford, is the town of Princes Risborough. Geographically, the town is situated between the Vale of Aylesbury and the western escarpment of the Chiltern Hills, on the route of the ancient trackway known as Icknield Way. The town's name derives from Old English 'hrisen beorgas', meaning 'brushwood-covered hills'. Its prefix refers to Edward, the Black Prince - the eldest son of King Edward III who appointed the Black Prince as custodian of the manor in 1343. Various subsequent princes also held the manor here all the way up to Charles I prior to his becoming king. At the heart of the town is St Mary's Church, which dates back to the 13th century, albeit with some 19th century restoration work and a replacement tower and spire from the early 20th century. Another notable religious building in the town is St Teresa's Church. Featured at the very end of the walk, this Roman Catholic church was built between 1937 and 1938 according to a design by Italian architect Giuseppe Rinvolucri. In 1862 the railway arrived in Princes Risborough courtesy of the Wycombe Railway. At its height, the station accommodated multiple branch lines. Today it forms part of the Chiltern Main Line between London and Birmingham, as well as being the southern terminus of the Aylesbury–Princes Risborough line. Famous people from Princes Risborough include former Blondie bass guitarist Nigel Harrison (although he was born in Stockport). 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
