Based on a true story! After Paul and Jenny part ways with their sinister housekeeper Agatha, the disgruntled former employee gives a vintage doll called Robert to their son Gene. It was rumored that the gift was the servant's revenge for being mistreated by the Otto family. Eugene Otto kept Robert by his side until his death in 1974. It is rumored that Otto's wife, Anne, was driven insane by her husband's lifelong devotion to the doll. The real-life Robert the Doll is now on display at the East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida. Visitors to the Museum must ask for the doll's permission before taking a photograph. Anyone who chooses to take a picture without the doll's permission will apparently be cursed for all eternity. There are numerous letters displayed on the wall of the museum from people asking Robert to remove the curse he placed on them. The custom of Museum visitors asking for Robert's permission to take his photograph is included in this film. The true story of Robert the Doll was allegedly the inspiration for Chucky, the doll featured in the horror film series Child's Play. Myrtle Reuter purchased the Otto home in 1974 and inherited the doll along with the property. She kept Robert when she moved to Von Phister Street six years later. In 1994 she donated Robert to the East Martello Museum claiming he moved around her house on his own and was haunted. Myrtle died a few months later. The third film to feature the 'Robert the Doll' character. The first being "Poltergeist Activity" (2015) and "Robert". The Robert Doll, originally belonging to the Otto family of Key West Florida in the late 1800s, were known to be stern with the Haitian servants. Upon finding one that was hired to care for their son Robert practicing "Black Magik" in the back yard; Mrs. Otto fired her. Before leaving she gave Robert a lifelike doll which stood 3 ft tall and had hair that was made from the human hair of Robert himself. He chose to call the doll Robert; taking it everywhere. After a while he refused to answer by his given name of Robert, instead changing to his middle name Gene... claiming that Robert was the doll's name. In Germany, the film was released under the title "Robert 2 - Die Rückkehr der Teufelspuppe", translated into English as "Robert 2: The Return of the Devil Doll". The real Robert the Doll was reportedly manufactured by the Steiff toy company in Germany. The nationality of the Toymaker character in this film is based on Robert's real-life German origins.
