TESTING CONCRETE POROSITY | Flooring Adhesives

In this episode of TIPS we talk about how to easily test concrete substrates for porosity. As a flooring installer, it is important to know if the substrate is porous or not prior to choosing the adhesive/coating that is right for the project. Also, many adhesives and/or coatings will require different trowel sizes depending on porosity. Testing for porosity is quick and easy, just follow ASTM F3191. Apply a quarter-sized drop of water to the concrete and allow it to sit for 60 seconds. If it absorbs, the concrete is porous and if it sits on the surface, the concrete is non-porous.
