The first thing I wanted to see when I visited Istanbul was the Blue Mosque. I had heard about it and have seen pictures of it for years and to me, it represents Istanbul. The Blue Mosque gets its name from the 20,000 handmade blue Iznik tiles that are in the interior. It has magnificent architecture both inside and out. The Blue Mosque is also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, and was built from 1609-1616. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Turkey.
