ফুলবাড়ীয়া বাংলাদেশের ময়মনসিংহ জেলার অন্তর্গত একটি উপজেলা।ঐতিহাসিকদের মতে প্রাচীনকালে ফুলবাড়ীয়ায় ফুলখড়ি এক ধরনের লাকড়ী জাতীয় গাছ জন্মাত। যা অত্র এলাকার মানুষ লাকড়ী হিসাবে ব্যবহার করত। ফুলবাড়ীয়ার পূর্ব নাম ছিল গোবিন্দগঞ্জ। ধারণা করা হয়ে থাকে ফুলখড়ি থেকেই ফুলবাড়ীয়া নামের উৎপত্তি হয়েছে। ময়মনসিংহ জেলা সদর থেকে ২০ কিলমিটার দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম দিকে ফুলবাড়ীয়া উপজেলার অবস্থান। ফুলবাড়ীয়া উপজেলার উত্তরে ময়মনসিংহ সদর উপজেলা, দক্ষিণে ভালুকা উপজেলা ও টাঙ্গাইল জেলার ঘাটাইল উপজেলা, পূর্বে ত্রিশাল উপজেলা, পশ্চিমে মুক্তাগাছা উপজেলা ও টাঙ্গাইল জেলার মধুপুর উপজেলা অবস্থিত।১৮৬৪ সালে প্রশাসনিকভাবে ফুলবাড়ীয়া থানা প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। কিন্তু কিছু জটিলতার কারণে থানার সীমানা নির্ধারণ হয় ১৮৬৭ সালে। ১৯৮৩ সালের ০২ জুলাই ফুলবাড়ীয়া উপজেলা পরিষদ প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়। ফুলবাড়ীয়া উপজেলার আয়তন ৩৯৯ বর্গ কিলোমিটার। ফুলবাড়ীয়া উপজেলায় বর্তমানে ১টি পৌরসভা ও ১৩টি ইউনিয়ন রয়েছে। সম্পূর্ণ উপজেলার প্রশাসনিক কার্যক্রম ফুলবাড়ীয়া থানার আওতাধীন। পৌরসভা-ফুলবাড়ীয়া ইউনিয়ন ১নং নাওগাঁও ২নং পুটিজানা ৩নং কুশমাইল ৪নং বালিয়ান ৫নং দেওখোলা ৬নং ফুলবাড়ীয়া ৭নং বাক্তা ৮নং রাঙ্গামাটিয়া ৯নং এনায়েতপুর ১০নং কালাদহ ১১নং রাধাকানাই ১২নং আছিম পাটুলী ১৩নং ভবানীপুর উপজেলার উপর দিয়ে অনেকগুলো নদী প্রবাহিত হয়েছে।। সেগুলো হচ্ছে উদমারী নদী,বাজান নদী, বানার নদী, নাগেশ্বরী নদী, আখিলায়া নদী, মিয়াবুয়া নদী, কাতামদারী নদী, সিরখালি নদী ও খিরো নদী According to archaeologists, most of the Fulbaria is an extended part of the land formed by the red soil of Madhupur and Bhawal; one of the oldest soils in the country. The southern and south-western and south-eastern parts of Phulbaria are composed of red soil. The north-western and north-eastern parts are composed mainly of ancient silt and loam soils. Fulbaria was formerly known as Govindaganj. The use of phulkhari (a type of chalk) was very prevalent in the area from which the modern name is said to have come from. In 1864, Govindaganj was renamed to Fulbaria and administratively established as a thana. However, due to the influence and power of some people, the boundaries could not be determined. The boundaries were demarcated and the thana was officially established in 1867. During the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, a training camp for Bengali freedom fighters was founded in Kandania-Langal Shimul Bazar(Kandania High School Field) in Bhabanipur on 25 March. In Lakshmipur, a fierce face-off took place between the freedom fighters and the Pakistan Army resulting in 70 total deaths. On 8 December of the same year, Fulbaria was liberated. During a cyclone on 27 April 1972, many areas in Fulbaria were affected such as Bakta, Achim Patuli, Naogaon and Putijana in addition to seven deaths and many wounded. The Fulbaria thana was upgraded to an upazila (sub-district) on 2 July 1983. In 1998, the Keshoreganj College was founded. Fulbaria is located at 24.6333°N 90.2667°E. Fulbaria upazila with an area of 402.41 km2, is bounded by Muktagachha upazila on the north, Bhaluka upazila on the south, Trishal and Mymensingh sadar upazilas on the east, ghatail, madhupur and Muktagachha upazilas on the west.
