No steam traps to fail, no weird dubiously patented radiator return ells, no buried long wet returns to clog up, this is a two-pipe vapor steam system stripped down to its fundamentals. On the flip-side, the Tudor Vapor System strengths of simplicity, contain within it's greatest weakness. Namely, it it all too easy to throw the system out of balance by making seemly trivial changes. Our first experience with a Tudor system was nearly two decades ago. When we arrived, it was way out of balance, to say nothing of the water hammer. After several sessions (sparing you the details), we got it more or less stable. Fast forward a few years after that, we got a frantic call that the system had gone haywire again. As soon as we arrived, the cause was immediately apparent - the customer had gone ahead (against our standard advice), and had custom-made radiator covers installed. Most designs of radiator covers restrict the heat output by as much as 30%. In their newly installed hot boxes, the radiators quickly over-heated and sent steam down through their return ells into the dry returns where it had a grand old time playing havoc with the innocent water it found there and choking off the air from leaving the further radiators and causing them to grow cold.
