In the early Northern Song Dynasty, people from the South China Sea, Panyu and other places came to live here one after another and made a living by fishing, so it was called a deserted village. Later, residents planted flowers and trees. By the end of Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, flowers and fruits were everywhere, so it was renamed Fangcun. Fangcun was originally an ancient sea. In the thirty-third year of the First Emperor of Qin (214 BC), the Fangcun area belonged to Nanhai County. By the second year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1369), Fangcun was under the management of Panyu County and Nanhai County. In the 26th year of the Republic of China (1937), Fangcun was gradually placed under Guangzhou City. In the 32nd year of Guangxu (1906), shortly after the Changdi Road was built in the Dongdi area of Guangzhou, Huang Jingtang, an overseas Chinese businessman whose ancestral home was Xinning (today's Taishan), Guangdong, purchased the large sandy land beside Baietan in Fangcun in the form of a "family joint venture". A large piece of land in Ersha was used to build a stone embankment with a length of more than one kilometer from Fangcun Shangchong (today's Pearl River Tunnel entrance) to Fangcun Xiachong (today's Fangcun Ferry Terminal). It is said that lead liquid was used to fill the joints during the construction. Due to the construction of the Fangcun Causeway, the city of Guangzhou has developed a three-legged pattern with Baietan as the center and Liwan, Fangcun and Henan as its three pillars.
