USA: LOS ANGELES: OJ SIMPSON CIVIL TRIAL FOR UNLAWFUL KILLINGS

(6 Nov 1996) Natural Sound In the throes of O-J Simpson's civil trial for the unlawful killing of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman there is yet more controversy surrounding the star. This time, the American football player turned film star has been accused of asking an 18 year old court intern for a date - and of flirting with her during last year's high-profile murder trial. Amber McGrath alleges the former football star was making overtures although O-J denies the allegations, saying it was the other way round. Los Angeles court officials arrive for more legal proceedings Wednesday. O-J Simpson is back in court in the civil case for the unlawful killing of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The Goldman and Brown family are suing Simpson for the unlawful killing of their respective children. In the event he is found culpable, damages would be awarded against him in favour of the families. Meanwhile, it is not the only thing on his mind - there is yet more controversy surrounding his name. Amber McGrath, an 18-year-old court intern, has accused the star of asking her for a Halloween date and flirting with her during his criminal trial for murder last year. Simpson has hit back saying she's lying and that he flirted with everyone because that's the way he is. He also suggested McGrath was the one showing interest in him. Simpson said he had one conversation with McGrath in which she told him she planned to take acting lessons. Limping as he entered the court, the former football hero declined to answer any questions. McGrath, a high school senior working part time for the court's press relations office, said he asked her out the same day Simpson and Goldman's father Fred Goldman got into a shouting match in court. The out-of-court controversy postponed proceedings for over an hour while the judge met with McGrath and others in his chambers. But waiting journalists failed to catch a glimpse of her - she had arrived through a secret entrance.
