Examining the roots of homophobia in the Black community | Isaiah Boozer | TEDxDePaulUniversity

NOTE FROM TED: This talk represents the speaker's personal views and understanding of the Bible and homosexuality; some viewers may be offended by it. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... Considering the violence and hate the LGBTQIA+ community faces on a daily basis, DePaul University theatre student Isaiah Boozer examines the roots of homophobia within the Black community in America through spoken word poetry, considering different translations of the Bible and the country’s history of enslavement. Isaiah is freshman in The Theatre School. He is a multifaceted artist, playwright, screenwriter, 2021 US Presidential Scholar semifinalist and 2021 National YoungArts Winner as an actor. His mission is to create art that interrogates his trials, tribulations and triumphs, and our flawed culture pertaining to race, gender, sexuality and the cognitive dissonance within our societal norms. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
