Friday Focus - Ideas of UNDERFOOT

UNDERFOOT is an exhibition of new work by visual artist Elizabeth Price. It takes as its point of departure the archives of Glasgow-based carpet manufacturers, and in particular those of the renowned firms of Stoddard and Templeton Ltd, now held in the University of Glasgow’s Archives and Special Collections. Price uses the archival traces left by these companies to explore questions about work, cultural authority and value. For this in-conversation edition of the Hunterian's Friday Focus talk series, two members of the curatorial team for Elizabeth Price's exhibition UNDERFOOT will discuss its key themes. Dr Fiona Jardine (The Glasgow School of Art) and Dr Dominic Paterson (The Hunterian) will discuss the making of UNDERFOOT, Price's new video and textile commissions for The Hunterian. The talk will establish some boundaries for the contemporary field in which Price works and explore thematic and rhetorical connections between her work and leitmotifs in the novels of Muriel Spark.
