How many blocking plays will you get right? Take the Officials Institute 5 Play Challenge.

Officials Institute (OI) presents the 5 Play Challenge. This video highlights five plays involving plays involving possible blocking fouls. First is a real time view, complete with the ruling by the original officials. Next comes a zoomed in and slowed down look at the play. We end with an analysis and some commentary as to what the ruling should have been. These videos are dedicated to educating officials on the NFHS rules of basketball. The OI 5 play challenge is not set up to explain the rule in detail but will give reference to certain rules as the final analysis is given. This is done to provide context to the decision making process of how we should get to the proper ruling in the play. Every blocking video we show in this segment is clipped from actual footage of high school basketball games, involving high school athletes. The goal is to provide as much possible information to assist the way we see these types of plays in the future. The more plays we see, with detailed explanation, the better we will get at identifying the correct ruling more consistently. 0:00 - Intro 0:34 - Play #1 - Girl drives down the lane and when contact with a defender happens the official calls a blocking foul. Was it? 1:44 - Play #2 - No whistle on this play involving an airborne shooter. Was the defender legal or was it a foul? 3:00 - Play #3 - Block called by the trail official when the ball handler runs into a defender. What do you think the call should be? 4:03 - Play #4 - Blocking foul called again on a similar play from before but what was illegal about it? Watch and see. 5:29 - Play #5 - Tough play here. Block was the foul called but did you see that shove by the offensive player? You gotta see this one. 6:49 - Thanks for taking the 5 Play Challenge. Watching video clips is a good way to hone your basketball officiating skills and retain your learning for future use. We believe the most effective way to assist in building a correct understanding of rules and how to apply them is by watching videos with annotation, diagrams and shading to highlight key teaching points. Taking away and remembering specifics on a rule is easier when visual aids are used to present in a way that is easy to listen to and understand. The Officials Institute, and the 5 Play Challenge segment, creates videos in a fun and interesting way to test your ability to properly recognize specific plays, but don't leave you guessing about whether there was a foul, violation or not. Even though we cannot officiate in slow motion or freeze frames, by watching and reviewing video video in this fashion, we are able to "retrain our brain" so we can start seeing plays more accurately when we do see them in real time and increase our ability to get the call right. #blockingfoul #legalguardingposition #doublefoul #basketballrules #basketballvideoreview For more videos by the Officials Institute subscribe to this channel    / officialsinstitute   OR click the following video links Rule Review - Block / Charge    • It's a Block. No, it's a Charge. Bloc...   5 Play Challenge - Backcourt Violations    • How many backcourt plays will you get...   Live Video Review - Legal Guarding Position    • Let's review some video on Legal Guar...   You can also find us on our website https://officialsinstitute.org/ Join our group on Facebook   / officialsinstitute
